Celebrating Mother’s Day in Style
April 26, 2010
Mom’s Day is just around the corner and I can’t think of a better reason to gather the whole family for a special honoring meal. I am tremendously proud and gracious to have my mom and mom-in-law as role models – and we get to celebrate our mothers for just that reason each year!
Here’s a bit of inspiration in one of my favorite color combinations: red & turquoise.

Now’s the perfect time to drop a little note in the mail inviting everyone for a surprise brunch in honor of moms, grandmas, aunts and all of the special women in your life.
Set up a photobook to serve as a ‘guest book’ where everyone can leave a note next to family images. Serve cranberry mimosas and let each guest offer a special toast or memory.

Wrap up mom’s favorite cookies (don’t forget to include a copy of the recipe) as favors for each family member to take home.
This theme would work great for a shower, birthday, kids party or wedding, too! Images from this inspiration board are from: Party Spot, The Sweetest Occasion, Ashley’s Bride Guide.

Favorite Trend: Imperial Trellis Pattern
April 15, 2010
A favorite trend that I’d like to share today is one that has really lit up the design world over the past year. Kelly Wearstler’s contemporary pattern covers everything from throw pillows to hallway walls (that’s Chloe Sevigny’s green entry way above).

What’s special about the design is that even in small doses the imperial trellis print adds just enough modernity to update a living room that’s feeling dated, it’s amazing what a super-trendy fabric, wallpaper or stencil (check out that dining room wall just below) can do for a room!

Kirsten over at 6th Street Design School even made her own trellis fabric for a recent pelmet box project – see the process here. And there’s my update for today! Images from DecorPad (more great imperial trellis inspiration over there, too).

{Teal, Purple & Lime} Delicious Dessert Buffets
April 13, 2010
Oh yummy. And pretty. There are so many handmade & DIY finds in each of these lovely tables that Amy Atlas recently designed and created for Bride’s Magazine. Here are all of the details!

The Chocolate Spice Table: “We incorporated spiced chili and naga curry infused truffles, rosewater malban, pyramid-shaped chocolates, sesame candy and a macaron tower, all on bronze and rattan vessels filled with whole spices. For decorative elements, we included Moroccan lanterns and a pussy willow branch display. We also sewed together burlap fabric to create spice sacks to give the table a “Moroccan-market” feel and filled up Moroccan tea glasses with spiced hot chocolate and cinnamon sticks.”

The Citrus Chevron Table: “For this table, we incorporated a bright citrus color palette of tangerine, lemon and lime with a modern chevron zig zag pattern. We created a ribbon garland, clementine centerpiece, as well as chevron patterned popcorn cups and favor bags. We included a modern chevron cake, which we placed on zig zag vessels. Other great treats included passion fruit marshmallows, chevron patterned cupcakes and citrus meringue buttercream sandwiches.”
