DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards
November 23, 2009
Thanksgiving is almost here! Here are several fresh ideas for unique Thanksgiving place cards — whether your table will be inspired by nature, offer a vintage vibe or have a modern theme, these simple place cards are the icing on the cake.
Etsy artist, LittleBrownPen, features a modern spin on the traditional tag (see above), check out the site for more beautiful designs and ordering information — or try printing your own similar tags using Word (create a text box and fill with color, then write in lowercase and with a simple font your guest’s name) print as needed!

Natural elements make wonderfully creative cards — be it fruit, twigs or seeds there’s no need to search for greater inspiration than your own backyard. Images clockwise from top: Martha Stewart, Family Crafts, Pottery Barn and Woman’s Day.

How neat are these vintage placecards by LollyChops? The best part, Lolly has posted her free downloadable PDF at Crafty Stylish along with step-by-step directions to apply your own vintage look.

The colors and patterns would work so well with a vintage tablescape that pulls in rich tones of red, orange and teal. I love the look of the stamped images on each card. It’s so easy to create your own — as you can see from Lolly’s directions, all that you need is the PDF, a craft puncher and stamp pad! Brilliant.

DIY Fabric Roman Shades
November 19, 2009It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to feature a really awesome DIY project and I couldn’t be MORE excited about this one! Fabric roman shades are classy and beautiful — and they add a bit of pattern and personality into any room. The fabric shades that Coddington Design incorporated into the above living room pull the room together.
Here are three step-by-step DIY projects (from your own old blinds or from scratch) to keep you busy!
You could purchase pre-made shades or even have custom window coverings designed out of your favorite material — but if you have an old set of blinds or roman shades lying around, creating your own can be quick & easy!
Follow the jump for step-by-step instructions for custom roman shades created from old blinds, an old roman shade (even a cheaper version that you find on the market, like a standard Ikea or Target shade is a great starting point) OR even from scratch! Apartment Therapy, Little Green Notebook and Canadian House & Home have it covered! Literally. Read more »

Rustic Thanksgiving Inspiration in Rich Colors
November 17, 2009I was out and about searching for Thanksgiving inspiration when I came across this beautiful rustic wedding at one of my favorite blogs, Style Me Pretty. Jessica Claire, a fantastic artist and photographer in her own right, married in Napa Valley and shared her wedding inspiration through the eyes of photographer Jose Villa. Check out their blogs for a little {swooning} over pure photography bliss.
Gorgeous wedding aside, this would make a LOVELY Thanksgiving tablescape! From the rich colors to the vintage appeal and outdoor ambiance — I’m picturing what random vases I might have around to copy this beautiful look.

Simple floral centerpieces, thrift store vases and containers, a single statement runner in lieu of a tablecloth, and just a hint of glam in sparkly gold chargers all contribute to a cozy but festive tablescape.
Casual tall branches poke out of an unassuming vase and become the focal point for a buffet or kitchen table arrangement. A hodge podge of fresh flowers from your local farmers market contribute color, but there’s no need to stick to a style or shade — buy what’s fresh and in season.
