Dexter Was Here: A Spin on the Halloween Party
October 13, 2009This is so creepy. And yet the ideas captured by Amy Lau in her dining room refashion based off of the Showtime Dexter series is incredibly creative! It would be a very cool and unexpected twist on the standard annual Halloween party theme!

The overall look kind of gives me the heeby jeebies, but you have to admit that it’s pretty genius. If you’re ready to recreate for yourself, here’s a little inspiration board I pulled together with help from This Next.

Dining Table Makeover: Chalkboard Style!
October 13, 2009This is such a clever way to refurbish an old dining room table. Plus, so much fun for kids (and dinner guests!) — no crayons and placemats required! Kate Leary of Mi Piace Kate Design shared this Before & After with Design Sponge in August after a great Craigslist find up in San Francisco. It’s so classy! The structure of the table is already there — but the bleached wood look had to go.
A bit of priming, chalkboard paint and a Saturday afternoon — and voila, a beautiful table that’s fun for everyone! I love the chairs, too. It adds that modern edge to tie the piece into the rest of the house.
Follow the jump for a more detailed How-To. Do you have a great Before & After project? Contact me to submit pictures and your story! Read more »

{Giveaway!} Blue + Salmon Pink Tablescape
October 12, 2009
I love the look of contrasting colors — and shades of blue and pink (navy on down to fuscia) are two of my favorites! When My Mama Made It created these beautiful {exclusive} fabric napkin rings just for our giveaway collaboration, I knew we needed to build an entire tablescape around the colors.

Modern and vibrant centerpieces were created out of lollipop carnation balls and poms (with the collaboration of Prost to the Host pom designer, Alysia — visit her Etsy store and receive free shipping with mention of this giveaway in a convo!) that rested atop cylinder vases and with inspiration from a song bird Pier 1 plate, I designed custom invitations and place cards to match the theme.

The winner of this giveaway will receive:
*6 flower napin rings
*two large & four small poms (sky blue, white and salmon pink — for hanging or lollipop-style centerpieces)
*a PDF of printable song bird party invitations and place cards
*materials to build your own carnation ball centerpieces
*as well as lavendar Martha Stewart paper (as pictured) for placemats, table runner or centerpiece base coverings!
Everything you need to throw a very lovely dinner party for your closest friends! The entire tablescape is valued at $120.

There are two ways to enter!
