{Deliciously Decorated} Holiday Dessert Tables

December 7, 2010

There are so many creative {and beautiful} holiday ideas out there that I thought I’d share a quick round-up of a few of my favorite dessert tables.

These buffet-style spreads are full of great DIY projects - from adorable crafts to favors for friends to yummy recipes – that even if you don’t have time to tackle an entire table at your holiday party there’s sure to be an “ah-ha” idea that you’ll love in there somewhere.

For all of the juicy details and plenty of pictures, just click on the link with the theme name to jump out to the original full post.

I love the idea of using a striped fabric or wrapping paper as a backdrop to a delicious spread – and how wonderful are all of the gingerbread details in this “Christmas Candyland” theme design by Bird Crafts and featured over at Hostess with the Mostess?

Below, TomKat Studios shares a whimsical “Let it Snow” dessert table with splashes of bright pink:

Check out the adorable sugar-covered marshmallow men (in the form of skewered pops) on this Christmas Snowman table by Shindig Parties to Go:

Below, a “Pink Nutcracker Suite” buffet shared on HWTM by Kate Landers Events makes for a great little girl’s birthday party or even a grown-up girl’s spread before a night out on the town to see the ballet or catch a chick flick!

And that’s the round-up!

Christmas decor is going up in a flurry over here at the Spenla house – I keep wondering what will happen if babe decides to come early (he/she is technically full term now at 37 weeks!) with me amidst rolls of garland, flashing Christmas lights and tiny ornaments as I get the house holiday ready! I don’t think I’d like to come back from the hospital in the chaos that is our living room now…

Designing a Dessert Buffet on a Budget

May 26, 2010

When I came across this wonderful post over at Amy Atlas I new I had to share – who doesn’t love a beautiful, well thought out show stopper like a pearly white dessert buffet designed and decorated in a very wallet friendly way?

Wedding Obsessed created this delightful table spread for only $40! Going to show that it can be easy and affordable to build a beautiful bar at an easy price. {And it’s so lovely to look at…}

On the menu:

1. 1 bag of large marshmallows
2. 2 Bags of heart shaped chocolates
3. boxes of sugared doughnuts
4. 2 of Boxes of Oreo Cakesters (imitation whoopie pies)
5. Popsicle sticks
6. Mini yogurt pretzels (aka yotzels!)
7. Mini marshmallows
8. 6 dollar store jars (favors)
9. Pink mints
10. Mini cupcake mix with frosting and cherries
11. Mini meringues
12. Heart shaped cookies
13. Sparkling water

Total Cost: $40.00

Decor came in the form of pretty cake stands, spray painted white frames (a quick and easy project with thrift store pictures) and an old desk with a fresh coat of paint.

Keeping to the mission of cheap, cheap, cheap, labels and containers were made out of cut up Valentine’s Day cards, and jars disguised with paper made the perfect containers. Brilliant!

{Teal, Purple & Lime} Delicious Dessert Buffets

April 13, 2010

Oh yummy. And pretty. There are so many handmade & DIY finds in each of these lovely tables that Amy Atlas recently designed and created for Bride’s Magazine. Here are all of the details!

The Vintage Table: “We incorporated aqua and magenta birds and blooms throughout the design of this table.  We made feed sacks by sewing vintage fabric, made homemade preserve favors, and created a bird and bloom bunting banner.  We included a birds and bloom ruffled wedding cake, nostalgic candy such as salt water taffy, maltballs, ribbon candy, an old fashioned buttercream cake and dahlia cupcakes.  We also made favor boxes with handmade fabric dahlias.”
a

The Chocolate Spice Table:
“We incorporated spiced chili and naga curry infused truffles, rosewater malban, pyramid-shaped chocolates, sesame candy and a macaron tower, all on bronze and rattan vessels filled with whole spices. For decorative elements, we included Moroccan lanterns and a pussy willow branch display. We also sewed together burlap fabric to create spice sacks to give the table a “Moroccan-market” feel and filled up Moroccan tea glasses with spiced hot chocolate and cinnamon sticks.”

The Citrus Chevron Table: “For this table, we incorporated a bright citrus color palette of tangerine, lemon and lime with a modern chevron zig zag pattern.  We created a ribbon garland, clementine centerpiece, as well as chevron patterned popcorn cups and favor bags.  We included a modern chevron cake, which we placed on zig zag vessels.  Other great treats included passion fruit marshmallows, chevron patterned cupcakes and citrus meringue buttercream sandwiches.”
