Decorating for Fall: Yarn Pumpkins
October 12, 2011Here’s an easy fall craft to tackle in about an hour (perfect for a car trip or while you’re catching up on the latest episode of The Office).
I found two styrofoam pumpkins in the 50% off bin at Michaels and knew that they could be so much more. With a bit of orange yarn (also 50% off) and a few fabric leaves these guys were ready for display:

They’re living in the fruit and veggie bowl at the moment (next to some hand grown tomatoes, yum) but they’ll probably find a new home soon.

Yarn Pumpkins
m
Materials: styrofoam pumpkins (or balls that you shape into pumpkins), orange yarn, green or fabric felt, pins or glue for leaves
It’s as easy as…
{1.} Wrap the yarn around your pumpkin and tie a knot on the underside.
{2.} Continue to wrap the yarn around the pumpkin in large sections (this gives the wrapping a little uniformity – you could skip that part and just wrap like crazy though).

{3.} Cut felt or fabric pumpkin leaves and attach with a pin or glue
…and display!

Super simple and crafty fall pumpkins ready to go.

Wardrobe Style Boards: Fall is Here! Part 1
October 10, 2011It’s been far too long since that little button marked ‘Wardrobe Style Boards’ over there in the left sidebar has received any attention.
I’m here today with a fall update! I’ve loved the lace inspiration that has inspired both summer and fall clothing lines this year and I’d love to find a casual way to incorporate it into an everyday wardrobe.
Enter the lace tunic. An ideal top that could be tucked in, belted, worn with a skirt, over a dress or as a layering blouse over trouser jeans for a Casual Friday at the office. So versatile and absolutely a piece that can be both dressed up and dressed down for any type of occasion.
Pair with a pop of color in the form of adorable pumps or handbag, a super soft fall cardigan and simple gold jewelry and you have my fall staple. Minus the heels… perhaps a pair of classic black or cheetah print flats for everyday wear and tear.
For more style boards, head on over here or click that ‘Wardrobe’ button in the sidebar to the left! Prices and sourcing after the jump.

Decorating for Fall: Framed Autumn Leaves
September 20, 2011Here’s a quick and easy way to decorate for any season. Choose your favorite flat decor, mount it on white matting or construction paper (or a patterned fabric!) and frame.

I found a few plastic fall leaves (though it would be interesting to try drying the real deal – that is if leaves changed color in San Diego
) and lined several frames that I had on hand with white construction paper for a simple look.
Side note: Kevin thinks I have a frame problem… it’s true, *sigh*. I have a huge box of frames that I constantly rotate in and out around the house. Sometimes frames will sit for months, sometimes even a couple of years before their day of display comes. Most all of my frames are basic white, brown or black – nothing ornate and most made for hanging on a wall. The penny sale at Aaron Brothers is awesome – I have dreams of photo collages and what I will hang!

But I digress… For Christmas, I might change out the leaves for little felt Christmas trees or maybe mount doilies that resemble snowflakes on patterned fabric.

If you’re not a frame addict, try switching out a few of your family photos just for the holidays – or you could always put that Aaron Brothers, Joanns or Michaels 40% off coupon to good use
.
