Handmade Paper Bunting {So Easy & So Pretty!}

May 19, 2010

I love the look of paper flags draped around a room, outside from tree to tree, or even as the backdrop to a dinner or dessert buffet. There’s something sweet and festive about the idea and it creates instant party ambiance.

Jump over to this quick tutorial for detailed step-by-step directions from Project Wedding to create your own.

Tissue paper cut into rectangles, glue and string are the only materials needed for this quick version (perfect for a Memorial Day picnic!).

Wrap your newly created bunting around an empty gift wrapping paper roll or paper towel roll for easy storage and transportation. This would be perfect for a birthday, shower or even wedding (image strings of soft whites and creams hung around an outdoor venue). Can’t wait to try it out.

The Painted Patterned Door Project

May 17, 2010

Before: your average ho-hum plain wooden door. After: a modern, spruced-up entryway with a subtle touch of glam.

Inspired by this amazing wardrobe makeover, Leah Moss of Apartment Therapy created her own diy trellis door with a bit of painters tape and a quart of paint.

She used 3/4 inch painters tape to create the overlapping trellis pattern (which is a series of squares stacked on their corners) and then painted the door in Benjamin Moore’s Barely Teal mixed with their self-priming Aura line.

If you’re interested in contrasting colors, try painting the entire door prior to taping with another color/priming blend.

Cool idea, right? Here are three more, starting with two closet makeovers and one front door that’s sure to grab a bit of attention. All images from Apartment Therapy.

I especially love the idea of taking lackluster sliding closet doors and giving them a quick update. Painting isn’t the only option, what about wallpapering or covering in corkboard squares?

Lemon Yellow Celebration Inspiration

May 12, 2010

Here’s a bit of inspiration teaming with soft yellows and golden accents - reminds me a bit of lemon sherbet, actually, which is just perfect for a summer celebration.

This inspiration board lends itself to any sort of shower, birthday or even for a wedding. Or how about just a summer get-together with friends under the stars?

These miniature yellow bags would look great with a custom stamp and filled with sweet treats.

Below, vintage lace works perfectly as a table cloth, and wild flowers in a matching palette are a beautiful addition to a simple tablescape full of thrift ware finds.

I love this dessert bar with it’s colorful accents and the green grass moat around the base of the cupcakes. We did something similar for a friend using wheat grass, though you could also check out your local home improvement store for flats of grass.

A delicious bourbon spiked ginger lemonade punch and more inspiration after the jump. Read more »
