A Bold Move: Four Walls of Wallpaper
September 27, 2009Wallpapering an entire room is daring & bold — it’s both painstakingly permanent (at least the application process feels that way…) and uber trendy (will I really love this pattern in 5 years?). But if you’re up for the challenge, the results can be marvelous.
It’s important to try new themes out on an old room. Even if you’re after the new, and you want to just get the project finished, get the home insurance sorted and start enjoying the house, careful planning can benefit you in the long run. Through doing so, you’ll end up with a new, bold look for the room, and the experience will teach you loads about decorating regardless of how enamored you are with the result.
Here are six fantastic living room examples from House to Home that offer casual {and very livable} wallpaper patterns on all four walls of a living room. I have a feeling these won’t be going out of style anytime soon…
Make a bold move in one of your rooms — this could be a great solution for a reading room or family den that really needs a ‘pop’. Wallpaper can also make an excellent accent on a single wall, in a small recessed cubby space (think window seat or alcove) or on a wall overhang (where your tv might be mounted or your fireplace juts out). Fabric of the Day: Dolce by Grand Revival
September 25, 2009Today’s Fabric of the Day is actually fabrics of the day because Grand Revival’s new line of chic home-spun patterns is great enough to bundle into one little post… It’s a bit of a teaser though, I must admit, because the Dolce line is actually set to be released in Fall 2009 (we’re there, but not quite there!). BUT you can pre-order at Fat Quarter Shop. I’d love to see a little girl’s room done in a patchwork/hodge-podge of these prints!
Grand Revival was founded by the very creative Tanya (who is an American fabric designer currently residing in Belgium) and is now on it’s fifth collection! Check out her blog too, where she shares the joys of patterns, sewing and living abroad. You can also find more creative uses for her fabrics (bag patterns, table runners and the like) with great close-up pictures posted at the blog.

Fabric of the Day: Amy Butler’s Lotus Design
September 20, 2009Today was such a wonderful lazy Sunday… I had much-coveted free time to enjoy the sun, sort & organize a closet in dire need of attention (always fun) and an opportunity to catch up with good friends over a delicious meal. Days where you get to spend your time on what you need or want to do are so very few and far between that when they come along surely it is the marking of a good day!
I came across this beautiful {very classy & modern} pattern this weekend while searching for a fabric for the backdrop of a bookshelf. There’s something about the floral zinneas/lotus that are both retro and tribal at the same time, and the structure of the overall pattern is clean and straight forward — but seeps of that modern, urban loveliness (Anthropologie-esq?). While I have always adored Amy Butler’s incredible feminine designs, this particular cherry wallflower fabric has stuck with me all weekend! I’m opting for a cooler shade of blue that will match my room for the bookcase, but this could happily find a space else where in my home! Check out all of Amy Butler’s FABULOUS designs by visiting her website here.
