Inspiration for a Valentine’s Dinner at Home
January 31, 2010It’s almost time {two week countdown} for your LBD and that sweet *little date night* called Valentine’s Day. If you’re anything like my husband and me, this day often comes and goes without much ado. Life is too busy, after all, to buy roses and make dinner reservations! But this year I’m changing that. How sweet – sigh – would a romantic dinner at home be? Here’s a little inspiration to lead you in that direction:
{Shabby Chic & Sweet} Tea party-esque Valentine’s Day decor would make for a lovely evening. Wild roses from the garden, vintage plates and a tiered cake stand filled with morsels to share.
{For the Heartfelt Romantics} For those of us who love a little whimsical, dress up your dinner table in layers of fabric, a touch of vintage lace and sweet mini bouquets.
{Contemporary & Bright} Coral pink, blue and yellow make this modern Valentine’s Day table setting special. Incorporate patterned and geometric prints in a homemade menu, table cloth or napkin – white ceramic vases create a clean finish.
And if you still cannot be persuaded that a dinner in may just be the way to go, check back soon for a Romantic Dinner Giveaway to make prep for February 14 easy and pretty!

Favorite Fabric: Heather Bailey
January 25, 2010I found this beautiful collection by Heather Bailey (shared by All Things Lovely) and thought it would be an ideal addition to PDB’s Favorite Fabrics (see the right hand sidebar button for the entire list to browse). If fabrics with names like ‘kissing booth’, ‘porch swing’ and ‘sugar mallow’ don’t make you smile, the country chic-meets-retro prints most definitely will.
Her latest line: Nicey Jane, is a feminine kickback to all things your grandmother probably loved (you might find yourself reminiscing about a window treatment or two!).
I’d adore a quilt made out of big patches of her entire collection.

A *Sweet* Buffet for a Very Merry Christmas
December 25, 2009While Christmas has come and gone here in beautiful Sydney, I wanted to share one last treat from my favorite holiday… especially since I *technically* have one more day to celebrate in my home town time zone!
Amy Atlas does a fabulous job again, this time for the O Magazine holiday party and Gayle King!

The lavender and cherry color palette is an unusual and beautiful one — I could imagine using these for a New Years Eve celebration as well. I especially love the vase tied in ribbons and bows, and the little custom ‘popcorn’ boxes (could be filled with any favorite candy).
