Friday Guest Blog Interview: The Picker Sisters

April 20, 2012 by Morgan

This is kind of neat twist on a typical Friday Guest Blog Interview over here, today we have a video version with Lifetime’s Picker Sisters!

Have you heard of these ladies? They travel the States looking for treasures in backyard barns, forgotten basements and dirty junkyards, and then turn their salvaged finds into very neat repurposed furniture, lighting and decor for their Los Angeles home store. Today Tanya and Tracy are answering PDB’s four interview questions and sharing a little more about themselves.

What is ‘picking’ exactly? Here’s an example of their digging:

and what they created out of that neat find:

So fun.

I was recently invited to interview the sisters and brought PDB’s usual questions to them to hear their thoughts on what inspires their stye, what they love about what they do, their favorite trends and a few fun repurposing ideas to share. And since Earth Day is nearly here, a little more about their work with Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest annual community improvement program.

Their ideas for repurposing gift cards, maps, wine bottles and broken china are clever, right?

I love their shabby chic, rustic style and their ability to see the beauty in an old metal barrel (that sink is amazing). One person’s trash is another person’s treasure! Thank you, Picker Sisters for joining us today!

For more about the ladies and the show, follow the jump.

The “Picker Sisters” is a show following an interior design duo as they hit the road and crisscross America in search of rare relics and materials to create stunning pieces for their new Los Angeles home décor pop-up shop. With keen eyes for style and intuitive design instincts, The “Picker Sisters” travel far and wide to find jaw-dropping bargains before driving back to California and transforming them into home and office décor that will sell for top dollar. Tracy Hutson: One of the designers on former ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” Tracy Hutson can often be found shopping in antique and specialty stores or tapping into her extensive network of experts to find that perfect piece of furniture, fabric, or accessory. A native of Dallas, Texas, Tracy began as a fashion model before moving to Los Angeles to broaden her career in the entertainment industry and pursue her fascination with design concepts. Tracy has also starred in such motion pictures as “Mixed Signals”, “Endsville”, and “Rated X” opposite Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez and has appeared on such sitcoms as “Less Than Perfect” and “Damaged Goods”. The author of the book “Feathering the Nest: Tracy Hutson’s Earth-Friendly Guide to Decorating Your Baby’s Room”, Tracy’s home accessory line was also introduced on QVC.
b
Tanya McQueen: A Texas native and Southern girl through and through, Tanya splits her time between Los Angeles and the tiny Texas town of 3,000 people where she was born and raised. It was in Texas that Tanya discovered her love of design and transformation, starting a business restoring and flipping historic homes. And it was while she was running that business that Hollywood discovered Tanya and was asked to appear on the television show “Property Ladder” and then was tapped to join the Design Team on the hit series “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Hi Morgan! Love this video interview, what a great idea. It’s so neat to see people come alive and hear their voices. It would be really cool if we heard your voice asking the questions, along with the text that appears!! ;)
