I Have a Favor to Ask Today

October 6, 2012 by Morgan

We are caught off guard at the moment. Completely startled and surprised at news we have just received. I hope you don’t mind that I share it with you, and I would like to ask you to keep this very special someone in your thoughts.

Kevin’s 17-year-old brother, Michael was just diagnosed with testicular cancer. Suffering from a mysterious pain in his lower back, Michael was admitted to the hospital where a tumor was discovered on his back, along with masses on his liver, lungs and neck.

We are stunned.

I am sure I have some better photos here somewhere… but as I sit writing this message from Spain, here are a few of Michael and Liv at Liv’s 1st birthday back in January. These two have a special bond, Liv adores her uncle Michael.

Liv is lucky enough to have seven uncles. Kevin has four younger brothers (of which Michael is the youngest) and I have three. We were able to line a few of them up to catch this shot, blurry as it might be.

Michael is very special to us, so as we wait to hear results from a surgery and multiple tests, I hope you won’t mind this favor – please storm the heavens in whatever way prayer takes shape in your life.

    Hello Morgan,
I’m so sorry to hear your news but so glad I took a minute to read this post. This is a heavy burden for any 17 yr old to handle, but Michael is fortunate to have the support of loving family & friends to help guide him through it.

He looks like such a cute kid, and so sweet with Liv. (He reminds me of my 17 yr old grandson, Tony.)

Sending a multitude of prayers and positive thoughts for your entire family, especially Michael.

Enjoy the rest of your trip & be safe,
    Janelle

Morgan, I have been reading your blog, but don’t normally comment (I’m a San Diegan, too). So sorry about your brother-in-law. Prayers to the whole family! My 35-year old cousin just won the battle against testicular cancer… he was at UCSD Thornton Hospital and they were great. Keep the faith.

I will keep him & your family in my prayers! My husband’s best friend went through this at a very young age as well, but after banking his sperm, he made a full recovery thanks to treatments and the wonderful doctors who helped along the way. I pray that God puts amazing doctors in Michael’s path!

Oh, no! I will be praying for Michael, and believe that God is still Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. I will add him to our church’s prayer list as well, if that’s ok.

Morgan, It breaks my heart to hear this news. I have always loved seeing how close the bond is with all the Spenla boys. I am sure that bond has been strengthened so much in these past few days. Michael has many prayers warriors storming Heaven for him right now. I hope you and Kevin are able to enjoy the rest of your trip. I love these pics with Michael and Olivia! Praying for the whole family, for peace and healing, wisdom for the doctors…We love you guys! Let us know any way we can help!

    Much love and many prayers,

    Hi Morgan,
Thanks for posting this. Michael has a big heart for Liv!
We just noticed this week that on his screen saver on his cell phone
is a picture of his neice, Liv.
Michael has a very tender heart.
One of my favorite memories of Michael is when he was about four years old, he surrounded me with his stuffed animals while I was sick in bed with a cold to make me feel better.
Thanks to all for praying for him and surrounding him with your well wishes.
    Love, Mama Spenla
