Guest Blog Interview: Cassie of Kent Heartstrings

July 25, 2014 by Morgan

Guest Blog Interview: Kent Heartstrings | PepperDesignBlog.com

I have a friend here in San Diego that I’ve been urging to start a blog for some time. She’s so creative and is such a great hostess, and I knew she would enjoy sharing her crafts, personal style and home-making with others. Well, happy news! She pulled the trigger and launched her own little creative slice of the blogosphere last month.

I thought it would be a nice introduction to have Cassie run through my favorite five interview questions as a part of the larger series. Cassie is also the crafty mind behind Kreative, a monthly diy night for all of our friends that allows us to enjoy time together (we celebrated my birthday this year making string art).

Cassie is mom to two little ones (Gigi & Charlie) and is in the process of transforming their 1940’s family home little by little. Hop on over to check out her new site.

{PDB Interview with Cassie of Kent Heartstrings}

What inspires your design style?

Beauty. I can appreciate the beauty in so many things and so many different styles. I gravitate more naturally to a beachy, rustic, antique cottage feel, because those are my surroundings (the ocean vibe). But I love a great modern design and layout for a room, or a mid-century piece of furniture or a bohemian fabric pattern.

What do you love most about what you do?

There are a few things in life that make me feel ALIVE: 1. Being a Wife and Mother 2. Creating 3. Hosting

I am so very blessed I am able to have the time to focus on what I really love doing…staying at home with my kids, dreaming up and creating DIY projects that inspire and hosting Kreative– a monthly craft night for women. I really get to sink my teeth into what makes my heart go pitter-pat and for that I am so grateful. I love to bring joy to others in what I do- whether its a smile from something created or a well needed night filled with laughter at a party I am hosting- it is fun to see others enjoy the work you put into something. I only hope to continue to extend the blessings I have been given, inspire and bring happiness to others.

What are your favorite design trends?

Whimsical // I love me a warm whimsy feeling. Whether its a dinner party, decor inspirations or fun kid crafts. I am a sucker for it. every time.

What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer readers?

1 | Be true to yourself, but see how you can grow and expand your design palette. With most of your staple items (In your home or even in your wardrobe) go for what comes natural, but don’t be a afraid to spice things up with simple statement piece that is different or more adventurous style then your own. It gives you a fresh outlook and perspective and often times re-invigorates your own personal style!

2 | Channel what inspires you. If something makes your heart go pitter patter. DO IT! No matter what is popular or on trend, you will always be the biggest fan of your own design.

3 | Invest in things with longevity. Whether its as simple table runner or a statement chair, keep in mind colors and patterns that you will be consistent in using or have multiple purposes so you get your moneys worth in everything you make or buy!

Can you share a favorite DIY project and why you loved creating it?

One?! Oh my, I have such a hard time narrowing it down to one, so here are two very different DIYs that are easy and I LOVED doing them because the results are fantastic….hope you enjoy them!
