A Pregnant Girl’s Beach Bag

September 29, 2014 by Morgan

A Pregnant Girl's Beach Bag | PepperDesignBlog.com

We are officially into fall, but a family vacation to Maui has pulled my mind away from cozy cable knits and more towards finding a swim cover up that is less muu muu and more confidence-boosting for this big ol’ belly of mine (bonus if I can wear it post-baby belly, too).

Just for fun, here’s what’s in my beach bag at six months pregnant (I love a good find, these are a few road tested ideas for the expecting and non-expecting that have worked out really well):
-A pair of comfy leather sandals
–Sunscreen that can be shared with the kids
-A straw hat (high/low)
-That perfect (and not too revealing, not too sweat-inducing) crocheted tunic for trips back and forth to the pool or beach. And this one is non-maternity, it just works well all around (speaking of, here’s a floral cover I haven’t tried but think is so pretty).
-An all-in-one prime makeup cream (a favorite of mine for travel that is also still available on eBay but difficult to find these days), a tinted face sunscreen is also super for warm weather
-An awesome maternity swimsuit (which this one is! I shortened the straps an inch on each side). There’s something about feeling confident without baring it all – though I so admire those beautiful mommas who can sport a bikini well into their 9th month!
-And finally, a canvas tote. I have one that’s a bit more similar to this one, but Roxy’s striped tote (and price) made me wonder if maybe I can justify two :-).

Above and beyond that? I’ve been getting a lot of street wear here in Maui out of this great pocket dress paired with a beaded necklace. And head scarves/headbands. Those go the extra mile in humid weather!

Hope your week is off to a beautiful start! Do you have any travel packing traditions or go-tos?

PS more maternity finds here, a morning routine that includes that above prime color, favorite sunglasses and two ways to track your travel (especially fun with kids).

The Girls’ Room: Finished

September 26, 2014 by Morgan

Girls' Room | PepperDesignBlog.com

One of my goals this summer was to take a few moments to capture our entire house on camera. I envisioned a one day little shoot where everything would be nicely styled with that comfortably-lived-in look that we’ve sort of built our house around. I set a date, bought flowers, asked my friend Katie to take the photos and cleaned like you wouldn’t believe. I was able to put about 80% of our house together before Katie arrived. I considered that a success :-).

I thought I’d share the girls’ room pics with you today as I slowly go through and source everything that I can track down. It’s part blog organization, part a goal of mine to have all of this recorded somewhere.

Girls' Room | PepperDesignBlog.com

In all truth, I love this room. It might be my favorite in the house. It is built around two little creative, active, imaginative girls that mean the world to me.

It makes sense that the library walls full of books aren’t perfectly coordinated, that the baskets of toys are stuffed randomly, that dolls are crawling out from under beds. If I can get this room 50% of the way there each night before the girls go to bed, I consider it a win.

I want the space to feel organized, but mostly loved.

Whatever home we end up in next, whatever redesign that we think up to fit a third in this room (maybe?), I want to remember every detail about this space just as it is today.

Up, Up & Away

September 24, 2014 by Morgan

travelwithliv_airplane

We traveled to Hawaii yesterday as a big family (my parents are leading up the trip) for a little rest & relaxation. I’m so excited that even a few hours of sleep, a 4am wake up call and a five hour plane ride with two littles who were bright eyed and bushy tailed didn’t deter in the least. Above, a shot of Liv and me just before heading home from Ireland, Spain and Morocco when she was one and a half (little did I know that Taylor was actually also in this pic too, though the size of a poppy seed ;)).

Today I thought I’d share my favorite traveling-as-a-family posts shared here:
